Everytown for Gun Safety

Urge Congress: Stop Downloadable Guns

Congress must act to stop the online distribution of downloadable guns. The House of Representatives can act right now to pass a law stopping these dangerous, untraceable guns from getting into the hands of domestic abusers, convicted felons, and terrorists.

Dear Representative,

Recently, the Trump Administration allowed a private company to distribute online the computer code that anyone with a 3D printer can use to automatically print their own untraceable guns. This is an incredibly dangerous move that would enable people who are legally prohibited from having guns, like terrorists, felons and domestic abusers, to easily print them at home. According to a recent Axios poll, more than 80 percent of Americans — both Democrats and Republicans alike — oppose the online distribution of these blueprints, precisely because of the real threat downloadable, undetectable, untraceable guns pose to law enforcement and public safety.

Thankfully, a temporary court order is currently blocking the distribution of these downloadable guns. While we're hopeful the court will continue to side with public safety, Congress must act to stop this threat permanently by passing legislation to block the distribution of these and all other downloadable gun blueprints.

As your constituent, I urge you to co-sponsor and pass H.R. 6649, which would prohibit the posting of dangerous downloadable gun blueprints online.
