Texas Needs A Red Flag Law

Texas lawmakers are considering a powerful measure called a Red Flag law, which would allow a court to temporarily restrict a person's access to firearms if they are found to pose a risk to themselves or others.

Far too many times, we've heard stories of mass shooters who exhibited warning signs before carrying out attacks. And we've heard countless stories of individuals who exhibited signs before taking their own life with a gun. We can help prevent these tragedies by passing a Red Flag law. That's why I'm asking you to support this life-saving measure.

This year alone, five states have enacted Red Flag laws as a way to reduce gun violence. In Texas, it could prevent countless tragedies by allowing family members or law enforcement to petition a court to have a person’s access to firearms temporarily restricted when they display warning signs that indicate they are a danger to their self or others.

A Red Flag law would help keep Texans, including our students, safer from gun violence while respecting due process through an established court procedure. Help keep our communities safer by considering a Red Flag law in Texas.

Thank you.
