Everytown for Gun Safety

Tell your lawmakers: Co-sponsor H.R. 3207

Domestic abusers shouldn't have guns. Period. That's why Congress MUST close the boyfriend loophole to keep guns away from domestic abusers.

Dear Representative—

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness month, and it's time we close a deadly loophole in federal law. Currently, federal law doesn't prevent domestic abusers from buying guns unless they have been married to, lived with, or share a child in common with their victim. This “boyfriend loophole” leaves dating partners unprotected from domestic abusers with guns.

This gap in federal law has become increasingly deadly, and today women are just as likely to be killed by dating partners as by spouses. That's why I'm asking you to co-sponsor H.R. 3207, a bipartisan bill that would close the boyfriend loophole to keep guns away from domestic abusers and stalkers.

It's a commonsense policy that will help save lives, and I hope you will take a stand to protect victims of domestic abuse and co-sponsor H.R. 3207.
