This year, we're turning our hard-earned wins at the ballot box into results by enacting common sense gun safety laws to keep Minnesota communities safe and we're starting with passing a Red Flag bill and legislation to require background checks on all Minnesota gun sales.
Send your lawmaker a message asking them to pass Red Flags and background checks legislation this year.
As a constituent, I'm calling on you to put the interests of Minnesota families first and vote for gun safety bills that will protect our communities. Sixty-three percent of homicides in Minnesota in the last five years were committed with firearms, and it's past time we take action to reduce gun violence in our home state. Requiring criminal background checks on all gun sales and enacting a Red Flag law are common sense policies with bipartisan support from lawmakers across the country.
And Minnesotans agree that more needs to be done. According to polling done in 2018 by the Star Tribune, 9 in 10 Minnesotans support criminal background checks on all gun sales.
State leaders like yourself are uniquely positioned to understand the localized problems that impact Minnesota communities, so I'm counting on you to use that knowledge, and help pass these important gun safety policies out of the legislature this year. Minnesota has so much to be proud of — let's make our public safety laws among the best in the nation.
