Tennessee lawmakers could vote any day on a reckless gun bill that would eliminate live-fire training requirements to receive a handgun carry permit in Tennessee. That means people will be able to obtain a handgun carry permit without ever learning how to use a gun.
Send an urgent message telling your state Senator, House Rep, and Gov. Bill Lee to oppose this reckless bill and protect Tennessee's gun safety laws >>
Dear Lawmaker,
As your constituent, I'm concerned about a bill that would dangerously weaken our state's gun safety laws.
HB 1264/SB 705 creates an entirely new concealed handgun permit in Tennessee, while relabeling the existing permit as an “enhanced carry permit.” The new permit would eliminate public safety requirements, like someone actually firing a gun before carrying a loaded handgun in public around our children and communities.
Tennesseans overwhelmingly support our current permit system across the board: 93 percent of Tennessee voters – including 93 percent of Republicans, 88 percent of gun owners, and 89 percent of current permit holders – support the existing permit requirement.
Weakening our permitting system won't keep us safer – in fact, states that have passed permitless carry legislation have seen a substantial increase in firearm crimes.
Please oppose HB 1264/SB 705 and keep Tennessee's handgun carry permit system intact.
