Right now, South Carolina lawmakers are preparing to vote on a bill that would allow people to carry loaded handguns in public – without a permit, and without firearm safety training.
Send an urgent message to key lawmakers telling them to REJECT Senate Bill 139 >>
Dear Lawmaker,
As a South Carolina resident, I'm concerned about SB 139, a "permitless carry" bill that would dismantle our state's existing concealed handgun permitting system.
SB 139 would allow people to carry loaded handguns in public – without a permit, and without firearm safety training.
76 percent of South Carolina voters oppose allowing people to carry a loaded handgun in public without a permit or safety training, and I urge you to oppose it as well. Since Arizona enacted permitless carry legislation in 2010, the rate of aggravated assaults committed with a firearm in the state increased by 39 percent by 2017.
Dismantling our current permitting system will not keep our communities safer. Please oppose SB 139.
