Everytown for Gun Safety

Hold Senator Ernst Accountable for Caving to the Gun Lobby!

Senator Joni Ernst should not have caved to the gun lobby.

She refused to advance the House's bipartisan Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act — which includes life-saving provisions to disarm abusive dating partners and stalkers. Instead, Senator Ernst has caved to the NRA and introduced a bill removing these life-saving gun safety provisions.

Send Senator Ernst the below message to let her know that's unacceptable:

Dear Senator Ernst,

As one of your constituents, I am extremely disappointed in your refusal to back the bipartisan House-passed Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. And that you chose to remove the life-saving gun safety provisions in the bill (S. 2920) that you recently introduced.

Refusing to advance VAWA with provisions to disarm abusive dating partners and stalkers leaves countless women in Iowa and across the country at risk. We need strong gun safety measures at the federal level to keep guns away from domestic abusers and reduce gun violence against American women, including women in Iowa. You should include these life-saving provisions in your version of VAWA (S. 2920).We need a version of VAWA that includes these life-saving provisions.

Siding with the gun lobby's agenda when survivors' lives are at risk is unacceptable. I urge you to reconsider the needs of your constituents and our voices as you make legislative decisions on behalf of all Iowans and the nation.
