Minnesota lawmakers are on the verge of passing a dangerous new gun bill that would make it legal to shoot to kill in public, even when there is a clear and safe way to walk away instead.
When so-called Stand Your Ground laws are passed, vigilante gunmen are emboldened to shoot to kill -- leading to shootings like the one that killed Trayvon Martin in 2012.

I am urging you to reject House Bill 238.
As a Minnesota resident concerned with the safety of my family and friends, I urge you to please oppose laws that would undermine public safety in our state. The gun lobby is pushing an extreme agenda in Minnesota that would put our communities at risk.
Stand Your Ground laws like House Bill 238 encourage armed vigilantism and give civilians in public places more leeway to shoot than the U.S. military gives soldiers in war zones. These laws do not deter crime, and have a disproportionate effect on communities of color.
Please stand with law enforcement and Minnesotans by rejecting Stand Your Ground in Minnesota.
