Everytown for Gun Safety

Tell Congress: Ban Assault Weapons!

This cycle of violence is heartbreaking. Every time our country begins to heal from one avoidable mass shooting, we're faced with another horrific act of gun violence.

There's often a common thread in mass shootings that makes them even deadlier: the use of an assault weapon—a weapon designed to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible.

Our children have a right not to be gunned down at school. We have a right to be in public without being shot. These tragedies don't have to be our norm.

We won't stand for inaction from our lawmakers any longer.

Send a message urging your U.S. Senators and Representative to support the GOSAFE Act to put an end to these deadly weapons.

Dear Lawmaker,

As your constituent, I'm urging you to take action to protect our communities from the deadly threat of assault weapons by co-sponsoring the GOSAFE Act (H.R.2790 / S.1370), if you have not already.

As our nation reels from one mass shooting after another—not to mention the countless acts of daily preventable gun violence across the country—we need bold action from our lawmakers.

The GOSAFE Act takes a novel approach to regulating assault weapons by prohibiting the sale, transfer, and receipt of gas-operated semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines that hold 10 or more rounds of ammunition. This gets at the heart of our gun violence crisis—because these are the types of rifles that, especially when paired with large-capacity magazines, allow mass shooters to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible.

Researchers estimate that if the federal law prohibiting assault weapons and high-capacity magazines had been in effect from 2005 through 2019, it would have prevented 30 mass shootings that resulted in 1,478 people being shot and killed or wounded.

Our children have a right not to be gunned down at school. We have a right to be in public without being shot. These tragedies aren't the norm in our peer nations—and they shouldn't be our norm. We must pass an assault weapons ban.

Please, I'm urging you to prioritize public safety by supporting the GOSAFE Act (H.R.2790 / S.1370).
