Everytown for Gun Safety

Hold Gun Dealers Accountable: Send Washington lawmakers a message before they vote!

In just a few days, a committee of Washington state senators will decide whether to hold gun dealers accountable, by actually enforcing the law we passed last year to keep guns off of the illegal market and out of the wrong hands.

Dear Lawmaker,

As a Washington resident, I urge you to support a critical gun safety bill: SB 5099, Firearm Dealer Licensing and Enforcement.

This bill would enforce the firearm dealer code of conduct Washington passed last year to ensure firearm stores are taking concrete steps to keep guns off the illegal market and out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them. SB 5099 will require firearm dealers to be licensed by the State Patrol and require State Patrol to conduct regular inspections to ensure dealers are securing their inventory against theft, maintaining sales records to aid investigations of gun crimes, and training their employees to look for signs of straw purchasing.

We know you have a lot of difficult budget decisions before you, but what Washington can't afford is more gun violence. Gun violence costs the state more than $11 billion per year.

Please help Washington continue to be a national leader for gun safety. Thank you.
