As a Tennessee resident, I'm worried about HB 409, an extreme gun bill you'll be voting on soon. Even as amended, HB 409 still unnecessarily and drastically expands Stand Your Ground in Tennessee.
HB 409 would expand our state's current Stand Your Ground law, making it even harder for families of people killed by gun violence to seek justice from the shooter. This bill expands the law to effectively prevent most lawsuits from ever being brought against someone who claims self-defense.
This bill goes against everything the civil justice system stands for. Our civil justice system provides avenues for injured parties to seek redress for harms they have suffered.
I urge you to reject attempts to make our Stand Your Ground law more extreme.
