The U.S. Senate has the chance to take meaningful action by passing the Build Back Better Act, providing a targeted investment of $5 billion in the communities most impacted by gun violence.
We need action on this public health crisis that disproportionately impacts Black and brown communities, a reflection of the nation's persistent racial inequities and low financial investment in communities of color.
Your U.S. senators need to hear from you now on this crucial piece of legislation. Send them a message urging them to support the Build Back Better Act >>
Dear Senator,
As your constituent, I urge you to support the Build Back Better Act, which includes $5 billion in funding for a community violence intervention initiative. The passage of this bill would be a historic step forward in addressing community gun violence, a public health crisis that disproportionately impacts Black and brown communities in the U.S. The Act would also be a first-of-its-kind, targeted investment of billions of dollars over eight years in the communities most impacted by gun violence.
The community-based violence intervention strategies funded by the Build Back Better Act are informed by public health models and provide culturally competent, trauma-responsive services to individuals and communities impacted by gun violence. These programs complement other public safety strategies by preventing gun violence before it happens, shifting community norms, and improving the outcomes and resiliency of gun violence survivors.
These comprehensive investments in the implementation and sustainability of community-based violence intervention programs are critical to reducing gun violence and building resilience and opportunity. I urge you to vote yes and support the Build Back Better Act, including this investment in community violence intervention.
