The Arkansas State Senate just recklessly rushed the passage of a so-called "Stand Your Ground" bill—and now the NRA is pressuring the House of Representatives to do the same.
If passed, SB 24 would give people a license to kill, allowing those who shoot others to avoid justice—even when the shooter can safely de-escalate the situation by walking away, and even if the shooter started the confrontation.
This bill won't deter crime, and it's a dangerous policy that has no place in Arkansas. Send the following message to the Arkansas House member who represents your district telling them to vote NO on SB 24 >>
Dear Representative,
As your constituent, I strongly urge you to oppose the dangerous "Stand Your Ground" bill SB 24.
Arkansas already has a self defense law—and there is no proof it isn't working. SB 24 would instead give people a license to kill, allowing those who shoot others to avoid justice—even when the shooter can safely de-escalate the situation by walking away, and even if the shooter started the confrontation.
These laws are associated with increases in firearm homicides and injuries across different demographics and neighborhoods, while disproportionately impacting communities of color.
SB 24 is a bad solution in search of a problem. Please reject this dangerous legislation and protect our public safety.
