This is the third year that Oregon lawmakers have considered the Cindy Yuille and Steve Forsyth Act, and it's critical that we pass it in 2021. It's named in memory of the two victims from the Clackamas Town Center shooting just outside of Portland in 2012, who were shot and killed with a stolen AR-15 left unsecured by its owners.

Dear Committee Members,
I'm an Oregon resident writing to urge you to pass HB 2510, the Cindy Yuille and Steve Forsyth Act, a secure gun storage bill. This is the third year the legislature has considered this bill, and its passage is past due.
In Oregon, four out of five gun deaths are suicides. Passing HB 2510 could help curb this, by requiring gun owners to lock their firearms and prevent people who shouldn't have guns from accessing them—particularly children.
Studies estimate that if just half of households with children switched from leaving their guns unlocked to securely storing them, one third of youth gun suicides and unintentional deaths could be prevented.
Secure gun storage can help prevent public shootings, as well. The Cindy Yuille and Steve Forsyth Act is named in the memory of two victims of the Clackamas Town Center shooting. They were shot and killed with a stolen AR-15 left unsecured by its owners.
While our country is still reeling from two horrific mass shootings in recent days, it's never been clearer that lawmakers like you must take action to prevent gun violence. I urge you to pass HB 2510.
