I'm writing as a concerned constituent to ask you to pass a secure firearm storage law in Oregon.
In Oregon, firearms are the second-leading cause of death among children and teens. An average of 28 children and teens die by guns every year — with 69% of those deaths being suicides. Research shows that secure storage practices play a vital role in reducing the risk of gun violence, particularly among children, by preventing unintentional shootings and gun suicides. By requiring firearms to be stored safely and securely, the risk of children obtaining a weapon accidentally or purposefully will drop.
HB 4005 would ensure that firearms in Oregon are stored securely, thus reducing the risk of injury or death by firearm, and helping to keep our kids and communities safer. I hope you'll support this critical law.
