As a constituent, I urge you to pass House Bill 4539 — a Red Flag law — for Massachusetts.
Massachusetts has long been a leader on gun safety laws, and it's time that we step up again. Since the Parkland shooting, states have been stepping up to pass Red Flag laws to help prevent mass shootings and gun suicides — and our state should be next.
This life-saving bill would empower Massachusetts families and law enforcement officers to intervene when they recognize warning signs that someone poses a risk of harming themselves or others with a gun. The bill would allow them to seek an Extreme Risk Protection Order, a court order that would temporarily restrict a person's access to firearms before warning signs escalate into tragedies.
