Everytown for Gun Safety

Colorado Senators: Close The Deadly Loophole In Our State's High-Capacity Magazine Ban

Even though Colorado banned high-capacity magazines in 2013, we still don't ban the weapons that can use them. And every state that borders Colorado still sells legal high-capacity magazines.

That means anyone can drive to a neighboring state, buy a high-capacity magazine, and attach it to a firearm that they legally purchased in Colorado—making that weapon more than twice as lethal.

Send your message NOW. Tell your Colorado state senator to CLOSE this loophole and pass SB 003!

Dear Lawmaker,

I'm urging you to close a dangerous loophole in our state's high-capacity magazines regulation by voting YES on SB 003.

High-capacity magazines make shootings more lethal by increasing the amount of ammunition that can be fired before a shooter needs to pause to reload. In 2013, Colorado enacted a law prohibiting magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition.

But this law remains incomplete. High-capacity magazines are legally sold in every single state neighboring Colorado and the high-powered, military style firearms that are compatible with high-capacity magazines are currently legal to purchase in Colorado.

This is a deadly loophole that shooters are taking advantage of. The Columbine, Aurora, Club Q, and King Soopers shooters all modified their weapons with legally-purchased high-capacity magazines.

I care about keeping our state safe from gun violence. Closing this loophole in our state's high-capacity magazine regulation will save lives. As your constituent, I hope that you share this concern and will vote accordingly.
