Everytown for Gun Safety

Tell CA Lawmakers: Fund CalVIP by Taxing Gun & Ammo Sales!

The California Violence Intervention and Prevention Grant Program (CalVIP) gives critical funding to local, community-based programs. CalVIP-funded programs are proven to reduce gun violence in California's hardest-hit communities.

The California Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee will vote soon on a bill that would tax sales on ammunition and firearms as a way to sustainably fund CalVIP to ensure these critical programs have the resources they need.

Dear Assemblymember,

I'm writing to you as your constituent to urge you to vote yes on AB 1223. This legislation would collect funds for the California Violence Intervention and Prevention Grant Program (CalVIP) by taxing sales on ammunition and firearms.

California is a national leader in gun violence prevention—yet CalVIP remains woefully underfunded. It's time we found long-term, sustainable revenue streams for this life-saving violence intervention and prevention programs to end gun violence in our state. Please vote yes on AB 1223.
