Everytown for Gun Safety

Send a Message: Support Secure Storage Legislation in Florida

On Friday, April 17th, two people were killed and five others were wounded when a 20-year-old student opened fire at Florida State University. Now, more than 44,000 Florida State students are left traumatized, and two families are grieving loved ones who will never come home.

This tragedy could've been stopped if the shooter hadn't had easy access to his mom's guns!

Now, because of the response to our movement, lawmakers will vote soon on whether to amend Florida's Child Access Prevention (CAP) law to mandate gun owners secure their weapons around people under 21—to make sure that those who are too young to legally purchase a gun can't gain unauthorized access to one.

Send a message to key lawmakers now, urging them to support this vital secure storage legislation.

Dear Lawmaker,

I am asking you, as a Floridian, to support strengthening the state's Child Access Prevention (CAP) law.

Research has shown that roughly three-quarters of school shooters gain access to guns from the home of a parent or close relative. We just witnessed in our own state, at FSU, how unsecured guns can easily fall into the wrong hands and lead to tragedy.

Strengthening our state's Child Access Prevention (CAP) law to ensure those who are too young to buy a gun can't gain unauthorized access to firearms could save countless lives.

You have the opportunity to protect Floridians and support the survivors of the FSU shooting. Please, prioritize public safety and strenghten our state's CAP law.
