Everytown for Gun Safety

Urge Colorado Representatives to Ban Assault Weapons!

HB 23-1230 would prohibit the manufacture, sale, transfer, and purchase of assault weapons in our state.

Assault weapons are high-powered semi-automatic firearms capable of firing far more bullets, far faster than manual-action hunting firearms—and each round carries more force than a bullet shot from a handgun.

Meaning anyone struck by a round from an assault rifle would suffer greater damage to their body than a round from a typical handgun.

These weapons can be far more deadly than a typical handgun and will continue to threaten public safety in our state if lawmakers don't take action.

Dear Representative,

As your constituent and gun safety supporter, I'm urging you to vote YES on HB 23-1230.

This bill would prohibit the manufacture, sale, transfer, and purchase of assault weapons in our state. Additionally, it would define “assault weapon” by reference to a set of specified features that serve to make these weapons more lethal or concealable. The bill would–with a few narrow exceptions for law enforcement and members of the military–make it illegal to sell, purchase, transfer, or manufacture any of the semi-automatic firearms that have one or more of these features in Colorado.

Our state has made measurable strides towards ending gun violence, but there is more you can do to regulate the flow of these dangerous, high-powered semi-automatic weapons. Research shows that restrictions on assault weapons can help prevent mass shooting fatalities.

Please vote YES on HB 23-1230.
