Now, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is asking for the public to weigh in on a proposed rule clarifying federal law and regulating bump stocks — a rule that would make clear that these devices are illegal. The ATF has asked for your view on whether there is a benefit to the proposed rule. We need you to visit the Regulations.Gov comment page and let the federal agency know that it's critical to put this rule in place – and finally regulate these dangerous firearm accessories.

How to format your comment:

  • Clearly express you support the proposed rule.
  • The comment does not need to be longer than 2-3 sentences.
  • Should explain why you think bump stocks should be regulated and the benefit to your community in making bump stocks illegal.
  • If you need to look up the proposed rule, its formal title is ATF-2018-002.
