Everytown for Gun Safety

URGENT: Help stop a radical gun bill in Ohio!

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED: Ohio lawmakers just announced a vote on a radical gun bill that would allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in schools and on college campuses, in bars while drinking, and on private property -- even where “no guns allowed” signs are posted.

Even worse, lawmakers are trying to sneak the bill through the legislature without any warning and no public discussion.

We need to send Ohio House leadership as many letters as we can in the next 12 hours:

Help us make it clear that we will not stand for sneaky tactics to pass dangerous gun bills that threaten our communities. Send the letter to House leaders now and tell them to vote NO on HB 233 >>

Dear Representative,

As an Ohioan concerned with the safety of my family and friends, I am extremely concerned by the advancement of the radical gun bill HB 233.

This dangerous bill would undermine critical public safety laws and put our communities at a greater threat of preventable gun violence. HB 233 would:

1. Trample on private property rights by allowing people to bring hidden, loaded handguns onto private property—even if the owner has posted a sign prohibiting firearms.

2. Allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in elementary, middle, and high schools—despite opposition from school safety experts who know that this policy is unnecessary and unsafe.

3. Allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns on college and university campuses—despite opposition from campus stakeholders, including OSU President Michael Drake, and the potential for significant security and insurance costs.

4. Allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in bars while they are drinking or under the influence of alcohol—despite alcohol’s association with increased aggression.

I strongly urge you to vote NO on HB 233 and reject this dangerous, irresponsible legislation.

Thank you for keeping my family and community safe.
