Dear Elected officials,
As a Michigan resident concerned with the safety of my family and friends, I am extremely worried by the advancement of radical gun bills SB 584 and SB 586, particularly in the wake of two of the deadliest mass shootings in modern history.
SB 584 and SB 586 would together force K-12 schools to allow civilians to carry concealed handguns on their premises. SB 584 would also allow hidden, loaded handguns in college classrooms and dorms, sports arenas, and bars. Lawmakers should put the safety of their communities first and reject the gun lobby’s dangerous “guns everywhere” agenda in Michigan.
Now is the time to have real conversations about how to prevent gun violence in our state. These bills are not part of that conversation. I strongly urge you to oppose SB 584 and SB 586 and protect Michiganders.
