Everytown for Gun Safety

Don’t Let Untrained People Carry Loaded Handguns in Texas

The Texas Senate is about to vote on permitless carry bills that would allow people to carry a loaded handgun in public without a background check or any safety training, critical safeguards to responsible gun ownership.

At a time when far too many people are dying from gun violence, Texas lawmakers should be working to strengthen our gun safety laws, not dismantle them.

Dear Senator,

As a Texas resident, I urge you to vote no on dangerous legislation that would gut gun safety in our state—permitless carry bills like HB 1927, SB 540, SB 2224, and SJR 24.

Permitless carry legislation would strip our state of essential permitting and training standards for carrying handguns in public, allowing people to carry a loaded firearm in public without a background check or any safety training.

81% of Texas voters—including 79% of gun owning households and 79% of Republicans—support requiring a permit to carry a handgun in public in Texas.

Please vote in the interest of your constituents' safety by voting no on permitless carry bills HB 1927, SB 540, SB 2224, and SJR 24.
