Tell U.S. Reps They're Wrong to Block Gun Violence Research

Congress's first vote on guns after the mass shooting in Charleston was to block federal funding for gun violence research.

32 members of the House Appropriations Committee upheld the NRA-backed freeze on federal gun violence research. It's an insult to the more than 30,000 Americans killed with guns every year and the thousands of others who are injured. Gun violence is expected to displace car accidents as the leading cause of death among young people in America this year. Congress should treat this problem like the public health crisis it is and get to work trying to fix it.

We can't let these reps get away with their shameful votes. It's up to us to hold them accountable.

In the wake of the mass shooting in Charleston, I write to express grave disappointment in your vote to uphold the 19-year-old freeze on federal gun violence research.

It's time to treat our problem of gun violence like the public health crisis it is. I ask you to stop putting the gun lobby's interests first and stand up to help save American lives.
