Everytown for Gun Safety

Tell your lawmakers: Co-sponsor the Protect Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act of 2017

Domestic abusers shouldn't have guns. Period. But right now, it's far too easy for abusers to get their hands on guns, putting our communities in danger.

Use our tool to send a message to your legislators and ask them to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous domestic abusers.

Dear Lawmaker --

In the wake of the tragic shooting in Sutherland Springs, I'm writing you to urge you to co-sponsor S. 1539, the Protecting Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act of 2017, a bill that would protect victims of domestic abuse by barring convicted stalkers and people who have abused their dating partners from buying or owning firearms.

Just weeks after the worst mass shooting in modern American history took place at a concert in Las Vegas, our nation is reeling again from gun violence. 26 people have been shot and killed, and at least 20 more have been injured during the mass shooting at the First Baptist Church.

Like so many mass shooters before him, we know that the shooter was a domestic abuser, and we know that this bill would save lives if it became law.

This bill will protect victims of domestic abuse by:

  1. Prohibiting gun purchase and possession by abusive dating partners.
  2. Prohibiting gun purchase and possession by any person convicted of a stalking crime.

It's a commonsense policy that will help save lives, and I hope you will take a stand to protect victims of domestic abuse and co-sponsor S. 1539.
