Building a machine gun shouldn't be easier than building IKEA furniture. But a small piece of plastic–known as an auto-sear or "Glock switch"–makes it that simple.
Glock has known for decades that its guns could be easily converted into machine guns, but has refused to redesign its pistols to fix the issue. Glock switches have already been found at multiple crime scenes in our state, and the consequences are devastating.
New York, like 20 other states across the country, already bans Glock switches. But we won't stop fighting until DIY machine guns are out of our communities entirely.
NY lawmakers are considering a bill that would prohibit the sale of any semi-automatic handgun in New York that can easily be converted into a machine gun simply through the installation of a Glock switch.
Send your message NOW. Tell lawmakers to stop the spread of DIY machine guns in New York!
Dear Lawmaker,
I am writing to urge you to cosponsor and support S.399 (Myrie) / A.199 (Solages). This bill would prohibit the sale of any semi-automatic handgun in New York that can easily be converted into a machine gun solely through the installation of a Glock switch.
Glock switches have been found at multiple crime scenes all across our state – including one instance in 2022, when a man stormed into a hotel in Poughkeepsie and killed another man visiting his own son in an unprovoked attack. Law enforcement in Buffalo have also reported recovering a growing number of Glock switches.
I hope when considering this bill, you will prioritize the safety of New York residents and not the profits of the gun industry.
