Everytown for Gun Safety

Tell Your Massachusetts State Senator: Vote Yes on Police Reform!

Police violence is gun violence—93% of people killed by police in Massachusetts die by gunshot.

Tomorrow, the Massachusetts State Senate is voting on SB 2800, crucial legislation that will establish a statewide oversight committee with the power to independently investigate officer misconduct and revoke officer certification when necessary. The police reform bill also includes a series of other reforms, including establishing clear standards for the use of force by law enforcement to ensure that force is used only when absolutely necessary, banning the use of chokeholds, ending qualified immunity for officers, and encouraging the implementation of community-based crisis intervention alternatives to policing alone.

It will also establish clear standards to ensure that force is used only when absolutely necessary, ban the use of chokeholds and other neck restraints, end qualified immunity for officers, and encourage the implementation of community-based crisis intervention alternatives to policing alone.

The Massachusetts legislature has a chance to be a national leader in police reform legislation, so we’re looking to you to do the right thing.
